Dhokla can be eaten for breakfast, as a main course, as a side dish, or as a snack. Dhokla are popular Gujarati snack that are light, fluffy, tasty and healthy.

The ingredients needed to make Dhokla:
  1. Prepare 1 cup mung dhuli daal
  2. Prepare 1 cup channa daal
  3. Take 1/2 cup urad daal
  4. Get 1/4 cup rice
  5. Prepare 1 cup yogurt
  6. Make ready 2-3 green chillies
  7. Take Salt as per taste
  8. Prepare 1 inch ginger
  9. Get For water syrup:-
  10. Make ready 1 n half cup Water
  11. Take 1 tspn mustard seeds
  12. Prepare 10-12 curry leaves
  13. Make ready 2-3 tbspn oil
  14. Get 2-4 green chillies
  15. Make ready 1 tbspn sugar
  16. Take Corriander leaves for garnishing (optional)

It is a very popular snack from Gujarati cuisine. Dhokla is essentially a batter from rice and chickpea flour that is left to soak and ferment overnight, then is spiced, baked, steamed, and/or fried. The small pieces are served by themselves or accompanied by rice, chutneys, and pickles. Dhokla has a slightly thick texture similar to a spongy bread.

Steps to make Dhokla:
  1. Soak all the daal and rice overnight or 6-7 hours than remove water and grind it adding yogurt, salt, 3-4 green chillies, ginger into a paste.. Adjust the quantity by adding water..
  2. Now keep the paste in a mixing bowl and cover it to fergmant for 4-5 hours in warm place.. After this step mix it very well and add 1 tspn eno fruit salt and turmeric powder and transfer in into a greased tray/ bowl/plate.. In the mean while make all the arrangements to steam it.. pour some water and boil it place a stand and than the greased bowl let it steam for 20-30 minutes.. Check it with the help of knife or toothpick after 30 minutes to confirm it is completely steamed or not..
  3. Take a pan add oil mustard seeds, green chillies cut in half lengthwise, curry leaves and than add 1 n half cup water and 1 tbspn sugar let it boil very nicely.. When 1/3 of the water boils switch off the flame..
  4. Cut the dhoklas into pieces and Pour the water syrup on the dhokla it will absorb all the water.. Our Dhokla is ready to serve.. Garnish it with corriander leave..

Ingredients in Gujarati Steamed Dhokla Recipe: This dhokla recipe is made with besan, however you can also make it from Suji. A besan batter consisting of citric acid, salt and turmeric is mixed.
